Ocracoke RUCS Installation

Tekniam installed its RUCS solution on Ocracoke Island, North Carolina, funded by the State of North Carolina and the Hyde County Commission. The RUCS solution connected the central businesses to the Internet, while providing back-up emergency communications for residents. Located roughly 18 miles off the coast of mainland North Carolina, and nearly 13 miles in length, Ocracoke is a major tourist destination with thousands of day-trippers and vacationers. Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital

Team Tekniam met with leadership from the Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pennsylvania to discuss RUCS communications solutions.  Mercy Fitzgerald Campus is a 188-bed teaching hospital located in Darby, Pa., which offers advanced acute care services in Delaware County and Southwest Philadelphia.

Hyden, Kentucky: Worst Internet in Nation

​Team Tekniam traveled to Hyden, Kentucky and met with the gracious Mayor Joseph and her deeply committed IT staff.  Our team successfully validated the RUCS solution against some of the most remote conditions in the United States.  According to published reports, Hyden has the slowest internet in the country at an average of 4.2 Mbps, or less than a tenth of the speed of the national average.

​Team Tekniam conducted a read-ahead concerning the RUCS solution for the Governor’s Office for the State of South Carolina. Officials there are searching for solutions after a recent survey found nearly 190,000 households in South Carolina are either unserved or underserved as it relates to broadband.

​Team Tekniam met with and successfully conducted a RUCS solution demonstration for the Pocahontas County School Superintendent and one dozen school leaders.  Our team provided an in-depth overview of the technology and answered technical questions during the meeting.  Pocahontas County is in the National Quiet Zone and has some of our nation’s most challenging remote areas.

​Team Tekniam met with and successfully conducted a RUCS solution demonstration for the Greenbrier County School Superintendent.  Our team conducted purposeful site surveys in remote areas of Greenbrier County demonstrating the strength and flexibility of the RUCS in delivering Internet communications in the most remote areas of Greenbrier County.

​Team Tekniam has met with many of North Carolina leaders to educate them about the RUCS and its ability to address issues with access to communications in rural parts of the state.  More than one dozen read-ahead meetings have occurred, and leaders remain engaged with Team Tekniam to deliver the RUCS solution to residents of North Carolina.

Charleston, West Virginia: Governor's Briefing

​Team Tekniam accepted an invitation to brief the CTO for the State of West Virginia and other interested state parties. After a formal meeting at the capital, a demonstration of the RUCS was provided which strengthened our resolve and highlighted the issues facing residents. West Virginia residents with a high-speed internet connection to their home fell over the last year to 82.2%, a drop of 0.2 percentage points. West Virginia ranks 48th in the nation, and it is one of only five states that is sliding backward.

Pilot Project at Jones & Jones Mobile Home Community

​Team Tekniam initiated its first Pilot Project in Kinston, North Carolina on May 6, 2021.  The deployment followed the 3rd successful formal Testing & Evaluation of the RUCS.  In partnership with the Woodington Middle School, and under the guidance of Lenoir County School Superintendent Brent Williams, the RUCS was installed to provide Internet access to the underserved/unserved students of the Jones & Jones Mobile Home community.

From the mountains in the western counties of Graham and Swain, to the central and rural parts of Robeson County, and finishing in the most  remote areas of Hyde and Tyrrell County on the Outer Banks, the RUCS performed perfectly!
