“Welcome to our Fire Camp!”  Tekniam showcases its large-scale capabilities for California Wildfire Officials

This past October, members of the Tekniam team had the opportunity to present the RUCS (Remote Universal Communication System) to a group of about 15 California Wildfire officials attending the annual California Wildfire Conference at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. The group toured an earlier prescribed burn site where Tekniam team members were set up along their route. “Welcome to our fire camp!”, exclaimed a Tekniam Team Member. The term “Fire Camp” could have seemed counter descriptive to what the officials were looking at – a couple narrow stands with small, fixed equipment and a generator.  But that’s all that is required for the RUCS to support a large-scale operation anywhere in the world.

The Tekniam team went on to illustrate to officials that they were looking at a system with even more capabilities than most trailered solutions that are currently being employed by emergency management around the world.  With just a single DM (Distribution Module) and PCL (Portable Communications Link – Cellular), the RUCS can support up to 250 users at once on a high-speed, private network.  The conference presented a great opportunity for officials to learn more about the RUCS in a simulated environment and put into perspective the benefits of having those capabilities packed into such a small and rapidly-deployable system. Tekniam team members were grateful for the feedback and questions from officials who are constantly on the frontlines and looking for new ways to fight fires and save lives.
